A 14 month old girl nearly drown Saturday afternoon. Around 2:00 Saturday afternoon, crews from Mountain Vista Fire District were called to the 800 block of West Calle Casquilla after the girl was found in a backyard pool. When the crews arrived she was with her parents and CPR was in progress. She was unresponsive but had a pulse and was breathing very slowly on her own. She was taken to the hospital and her condition is not known at this time.
Mountain Vista Fire District is reminding the community that even during the winter months people must follow the ABC's of water safety. They are adult supervision of children around the pool, barriers, pool fences and gates that lock properly, and CPR classes for adults and swimming lessons for children.
Did you know? For every child that drowns, four children are hospitalized for near drowning incidents. One-third of near drowning victims survives but suffers significant impairments or irreversible brain damage. A child can drown in less time than it takes to turn your back and speak to someone.
